Every status a contract passes through, when you pay, and when you can still cancel.
You pay once, at the start
A contract goes live when you fund the escrow. The full amount is held while the work happens and released when you approve it. Nothing is charged later, and nothing is charged twice.
A contract moves through a fixed sequence. Nothing skips a step, and each step says something specific about where your money is and what you can still do.
The sequence

The side exits
Rejected. An offer or a pitch that was turned down. Nothing was agreed and no money moved.
Cancelled. Ended before completion. Any escrow you funded is returned to you in full.
Disputed. Reported by either side while the work was live. The money stays held and the automatic release is paused while our team looks at it.
When you can cancel
The rule changes the moment work is delivered, because from that point the creator has earned something.

Once work has been delivered you cannot cancel your way out of it. You review it, ask for changes, or report an issue. A creator who cancels forfeits their payment and you are refunded in full.
Reviewing deliverables
Only the creator submits work, and only while the contract is live. You are the only one who reviews it: approve, or send it back with feedback. Feedback is required when you decline, because "no" without a reason is not a review the creator can act on.
The 14 days
Once the work is submitted, or completion is requested, you have 14 days to approve it or send it back. If you do neither, the contract completes on its own and the money is released to the creator.
This is stated in the Terms and it is the same on every contract. Put the review in your calendar: silence is an approval here, not a pause.
Usage rights on a contract
The licence is set by the creator and printed on the contract before you pay anything, which is the moment to read it. You cannot change it afterwards; if the terms do not fit the campaign, raise it before funding, because a longer or wider licence is usually a price conversation rather than a refusal.
The clock starts at completion, not at signature, and when it runs out the creator can offer you a paid extension.
